Marilyn Monroe Wines

The Velvet Collection

Vintages 2002, 2003 and 2004 available.
Sold as a set or individual bottles

A chance meeting in Hollywood between photographer Tom Kelley and an aspiring but unknown actress led to a two-hour photo session on May 27, 1949 that made history and established Marilyn Monroe as the ultimate sex symbol of the 20th century.

The ten stunningly beautiful photographs from the historic session became known as the "Red Velvet" series, each one a portrait of Marilyn Monroe posing on a red velvet drape.  These images are now immortalized in the Velvet Collection wines.

The most famous of the photographs appeared as the Centerfold of the inaugural edition of Playboy in 1953. That photo became the label of the 2003 vintage of the Velvet Collection, nearly all of which was destroyed in a warehouse fire shortly after the wine was released. By exclusive agreement with Playboy Enterprises, that historic photo portrait is now the label of The Velvet Collection 2004.

The wines themselves are proprietary blends of some of the finest red wine varietals - predominately Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot - grown in Napa Valley. The 2002, 2003 and 2004 vintage are available in luxuriously boxed and individually numbered magnums. Each label of Velvet Collection wine is covered with a protective vinyl overlay that, when removed, reveals the complete, original portrait.

The Velvet Collection wines are as sumptuous, inviting, and rare as the images of Marilyn Monroe that grace their labels, and are sure to find favor with connoisseurs and collectors alike.

Movie Star Wine

MacMurray Ranch Pinot Noir

The original homestead on MacMurray Ranch was settled over 150 years ago in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County. Actor Fred MacMurray (My Three Sons) purchased the ranch in the 1940s and made it his name for over 50 years.  Today, surrounded by vineyards, this homestead lends its name to some of California?s best Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris.

The MacMurray Ranch Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir showcases the cool-climate fruit grown in the Sonoma Coast appellation.  The maritime climate and dense clay soils are ideal for Pinot Noir as the vines nature slowly, coaxing the fruit to perfect ripeness.

This wine has distinctive cherry and strawberry flavors accentuated by sweet vanilla notes and spice.  It is a versatile wine that pairs well with a wide range of foods from grilled salmon to herbed chicken and roasted meats

Kelly

My current favorite wine is a Soave from Fratelli Pra.  Grown in the northern areas of Italy, this crisp white wine has flavors of tropical fruit and lychee, along with a smooth acid balance and refreshing finish. Perfect for a hot summer day.

David

Trevor Boots Grenache, Australia.  Aromas of fresh grated coconut and vanilla, with flavors of mint, cherry, licorice are found in this fruity wine, and are followed with an elegant finish with just a hint of oak.

Armond?s selection

Cheers Mates!  I have sniffed out the best value in the store!  Kilda Chardonnay has citrus notes, creamy texture and a clean finish.  It?s a unoaked Chardonnay from Australia and Aunt Kelly stores it on the bottom shelf so it?s easy for me to find.  Perfect for the dog-days of summer!  On the Armond rating scale, I give it three paws!

(Please note that Armond, a French Poodle, is our dog-nephew, but he is really excited about participating in the wine store and loves to sniff out great values.  You can count on Armond to find those hidden items, give it a ?Paws-up? rating and locate his favorite French wines!)
